1942. En medio del sertón nordestino, dos hombres se encuentran: Johann, un alemán que huyó de la guerra, y Ranulpho, un brasileño que quiere escapar a la sequía que asola a la región. Viajando de poblado en poblado, exhiben filmes a personas que nunca habían visto cine, para vender un remedio milagroso. Mientras cruzan los caminos polvorientos de sertón arcaico, buscan nuevos horizontes en sus vidas.
1942. In the middle of northeast Brazil, two men meet: Johann, a German who has escaped from the war, and Ranulpho, a Brazilian trying to escape from the drought that hunts the region. Driving from village to village, they show films to the inhabitants, who have never before experienced cinema, in order to sell a brand new miracle medicine. As they continue to cross dusty roads in the old-fashioned hinterland, they search for new horizons in their lives.
